Krapanj is a small island with a huge cultural importance. With the highest altitude of 1,50 m it is the lowest one among the inhabited islands of the Mediterranean sea. It’s area is 0,36 km². As a place, Krapanj is naturally, historically and architecturally unique. In the franciscan monastery of St.Cross from the 15th century there is a museum with original samples of amforas, corals, various sea flora and fauna, rare diving equipment as the valuable exibition of pictures by Ambroz Testeno.
Tradition of inhabitants of Krapanj in sponging and fishing is worldwide well known.
There is also a sort of grapes called “Krapljanka”.
North-west side of the island is partly covered with pine wood.
The island of Krapanj is situated 300 m far from the nearest mainland – that is settlement of Brodarica. Brodarica and .Krapanj are connected with a boat that drives every half-hour.
On 02.08. (Madonna of Angels) local inhabitants make Brodarica’s celebration.
